2010 Photos

The 7th Annual Pinewood Derby was a success, with 28 cars entered. And I think we had a first this year of no Illegal entries. There were tasty car treats with Kelly's cake, Sheron's cupcakes and my chocolates. Everyone was sure to leave on a sugar buzz.

We started off the afternoon with food- lots of yummy treats from everyone. And special thanks go out to Kat for unknowingly acting as the official photographer. I saw her taking lots of pictures and it was very nice knowing that I wouldn't have to worry about that.

After eating it was time for the races. This year we added two more iconic cars to our list of cars that have been made- Greased Lighting and the Mystery Machine. We also had York continuing in his theme of cars of small animals (snail), and Chris and Andrew both making small cars with a Smart car and a Mini Cooper. And even stranger, they both chose to paint them the same shade of blue.

And we had a first this year. When we first started holding the Derby, Mom Tedford made a purple car. No one has been able to beat it since. This year, at least two cars were faster than it.

A week away

This year's Derby is only a week away. I haven't started looking at the weather forecast lately, although Boy Chris has. All I know is this, it never rains on Derby Day! Remember that. No matter where you are, it won't be raining in our yard. :)

I think last year I was done with my cars a week early. This year, not so much. I have a feeling that we'll be finishing them up on Friday night/ Saturday morning.

How are your cars progressing?

We have a date... I think

After considering multiple date options and allowing some of our guests to chime in, I believe we have settled on Saturday, June 26th. Time to be determined, but I'm guessing around 1:00ish?

Hope you can make it!

2010 Planning

Well, it's only January, but things are moving along for this summer's Derby. no, we don't have a date yet, but we do have trophies, decorations, items for goody bags, and race car shaped chocolate molds. No, I don't have a problem.

I was a little disappointed when the trophies arrived. First of all, many of the tops were loose or unattached to their bottoms. No big deal, they were easily screwed back on. But what was really annoying was how cheap and plastic-y the top part was. They looked so cheap. I ordered from the same company as in the past, and those were all nice, metal tops. Or so I thought. I was on the verge of writing a letter of complaint. I decided to check Chris' trophy from last year to double check. His was, in fact, made of plastic as well. However, that was a more solid car design so it looked much more like solid metal. So I didn't write my email, but I think in the future I won't get this design again.
